In June of 2000 I had a conference to attend in Los Angeles. Normally I
would have flown down and back, but this time I decided to make a long solo
trip out of it, driving down via the back roads ("blue highways" as William
Least-Heat Moon calls them) and along old Highway 99 in particular. I took
copious notes along the way but I still haven't found time to transcribe
them.
These images are scanned from 35mm slides, originating from Fuji Velvia film,
50mm 1.4 lens on a Nikon N70 body. Scanning makes them a bit "cloudy", so for
most I've bumped the contrast in Photoshop. The result looks like 1960s-era Kodachrome,
which seems appropriate for these pictures...
